Updated IDPH Guidance

The Illinois Department of Health provided updated guidance on Monday, August 17, describing when a student or staff member should be excluded from school. This guidance has been attached for your convenience. In this guidance, it describes how long the student or staff member must be quarantined and the process to return to school. It is imperative that you look through this chart to fully understand how students and staff must be quarantined in certain situations. At this time, we are requesting students and staff who are forced to quarantine, but healthy enough to engage in the classroom remotely, continue to work remotely similar to our remote learning for all plan.

This situation remains fluid as the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Department of Health are continually updating guidance for school districts as they gain more knowledge. We are committed to keeping our families updated with the latest updates. Meanwhile, we thank you in advance for your cooperation and support as we deliver a quality education to our students during this pandemic.

If you have any questions or face any challenges as we proceed through remote learning, please contact your classroom teacher or building principal as we will work through these challenges in unison. While this pandemic has created barriers to reach our objective, I am excited to work as a team with you and your child to achieve academic excellence. Together, I am confident we can make this a positive experience.

Start of the School Year Major Change – URGENT

Good Afternoon, Warren Warriors:

Due to recent events regarding COVID-19 in our school district, Warren Schools will be starting the school year remote learning for all students. To allow families and staff time to prepare for this change, we will plan to start remote learning on Monday, August 24. At this time, we hope to return to our original plan utilizing both in-person and remote learning on Monday, August 31.

This has been a difficult decision, but due to the safety precautions developed by the Illinois Department of Health, this decision is best for the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. We apologize for not having the start of the school year that we all looked forward to. However, these unprecedented times continue to challenge us. We will send another all-call early this week regarding Chromebook and material pick up for all students.

Thank you!

Return to School Update – August 4

Good Afternoon:

Thank you for everyone who completed the enrollment survey. Nearly all students completed the survey on time. If you have not completed the survey, please call the school to inform us of your enrollment decision immediately. Also, tomorrow is the deadline for school registration. This must be completed in order for your child to attend school this fall regardless if you have enrolled in-person or remote learning. The fee portion of online registration should be available in the very near future. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Based on the survey results, we compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions. We have responded to these questions and also provided some additional guidance as the school year approaches. This FAQ document along with a new color coded school calendar has been posted to the school website. They are also attached to this post.

Please check out these documents as they should be beneficial as you plan for the new school year. As always, thank you for your support and cooperation.

Return to School Plan

Good Morning, Warren Warriors:

Last night, the Warren CUSD 205 Board of Education unanimously supported and adopted the 2020-2021 Return-to-School Plan.  While the plan is thorough with over 20 pages of content regarding our plans for this school year, this situation remains fluid as we learn more about COVID-19. The plan is contingent upon the governor, health agencies, the state board of education, and the health of the school district. Therefore, we will still need your continued attention and support as we progress through these unprecedented times.

Please read and become familiar with the plan in its entirety as it will be critical to the function of school this upcoming year. Attached you can find the entire plan as well as a letter which summarizes the plan. Our team is very confident that we produced a plan that works best for our school district and community based on the surveys and feedback received from staff as well as families.

At this time, if you have not completed the mandatory enrollment survey, it is imperative this is filled out as soon as possible with a deadline of August 1. This is necessary for us to make the final preparations allowing us to operate safely and successfully.

With that being said, these difficult times present challenges. It is practically impossible to make everyone, or anyone, 100% happy with the plan, but we did our best to address the needs and concerns of our staff, students, and community. I feel our team, who spent extensive hours in building this plan, captured that objective.

This is our plan if:

  1. our region continues to be in Phase 4; and
  2. our district’s health continues to allow for such an opening.

If either of these situations downgrade, we would pivot to the remote learning for all plan which is also included in the document. This could happen with very little notice. We apologize in advance if the district must make such a quick decision, but we urge families to currently have plans in place for both scenarios.

Finally, the school calendar was updated in lieu of this plan and the new mandated holiday on Election Tuesday.

Students’ opening day will now be Thursday, August 20.

November 3, Election Day, now requires schools to be off, remote learning is not even an option on this day.
This has moved the students’ final attendance day to May 20.

Thank you all for your time and cooperation.

Graduation Ceremony Postponed

Graduation Ceremony Postponed

Fellow Warriors and Warrior Families,

I am sorry to have to do this, but we have to postpone the graduation ceremony and graduation practice scheduled for today due to the heavy rain and storms that are taking place now and the ones that are expected from 3-8 pm tonight!  We will  reschedule Graduation for our rain date of July 2nd at 5pm.  Graduation practice will also be moved to 12 pm on July 2nd at the football field.  Looking ahead the forecast for next Thursday is Partly sunny and 86 degrees, but who knows the way 2020 has gone so far we might have an impromptu hurricane in Warren that day!  I appreciate your flexibility during these trying times!  Thank you and go Warriors!

2020-21 School Year Update

Dear Staff and Community at Warren CUSD 205:

I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. Today, the Illinois State Board of Education released guidance for schools on the 2020-21 school year.

This 60-page document has been much anticipated and will go a long way toward answering critical questions all of us share about what the 2020-21 school year will look like in terms of in-person learning, scheduling, transportation, wearing masks, social distancing, and other measures intended to keep everyone safe and healthy, while also re-engaging students in the learning process.

Right now, we don’t have all the answers to those questions as this document was released to school districts at the same time it was released to the public. Therefore, we kindly ask for your patience as our staff thoroughly reviews this detailed guidance and implements the suggestions into our district’s own transition plan.

Warren CUSD 205 is keenly aware of the urgent need to communicate to families and staff members about what to expect next school year. We will share an update regarding our own transition plan prior to Independence Day weekend.
As you may know, our district has already been discussing options and collecting feedback from all stakeholders. This guidance will accelerate our conversations, and I’m confident our district can put forth a plan that prioritizes the health and safety of our students while maintaining a dynamic learning environment.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as our entire district navigated a situation together that none of us could have imagined.

I will be in touch soon. In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy your summer.

Sincerely,
Shawn Teske, Ed. D.

Don’t forget to take the 2020 Census!

Please fulfill your civic duty by completing your census and increase the amount of federal funding our communities receive for community services such as public services, schools, hospitals, and fire departments. These figures also determine how many seats are allocated for Illinois in the House of Representatives. Furthermore, these figures help drive plans for new homes, businesses, and improvements to neighborhoods. Please take a few minutes today to complete your census, thank you.
