Everyone is invited to our Homecoming Pep Assembly on Wednesday October 5th at 7pm in the HS gym. Come out and show your support for your Warren Warriors with a fun filled evening led by Coach Breed and her cheer and pom teams.
The Warren FFA members attended their first Land Use Career Development Event on Pecatonica Road near Winnebago, IL. There were nine schools participating in the Soils Contest where students judged five separate pits that were approximately 25 feet long by 4 feet wide and 6 to 8 feet deep. The objective for the five person team was to determine the soil profile, texture, and structure with land uses for farming as well as housing and septic drainage field.
The Warren FFA varsity team consisted of Bryana W and Catie A (two varsity team members did not attend) and the junior team consisted of the current 8th-Grade Ag-Mini students. The Varsity Team achieved an amazing feat of 8th place with only two people on the team. Imagine what place they could have had with the other members that would have possibly doubled their score? I’m very proud of the ladies who competed. Please congratulate them for their fine accomplishment.
The Junior team consisted of Brianna L, Emilie S, Hunter H, ILayzia W, Maddy G, Matthew R, and Ryan M. Although their scores were not used in the competition, they were able to have a very valuable experience of being in the practice pit and five judging pits. This cannot be reproduced in the classroom and is not something that is readily available to students. This practice prepared them physically and mentally to compete in the future. Illinois FFA is beginning to allow the middle school grades to compete and gain experiences as other states and the National FFA Organization who are already utilizing in the Agriculture Education Programs.
The Land Use CDE is a valuable tool to introduce a variety of careers to students. One in particular is a Surveyor.

Week two of the award winning Hometown Throwdown video update series is live on MyStateLive.com. These weekly updates are written, produced, filmed and edited by Mr. Renz’s Journalism class and entered into a contest against area schools. The school with the most views wins a cash prize. Let’s win again this year!
Please watch and, if you’re on Facebook, share our post with your friends.
Also, if there’s anything going on that you would like highlighted in the series, let Mr. Renz know and he’ll dispatch a student reporter to cover the event. It can be anything school-related, not just sports.
