HS BAND 2009-2010
Grading: 10% EACH performance
20-80% participation
Performance: Band is a performance-based class. We need everyone to perform to our potential. There are 3-5 required performances each quarter. Each performance is worth 10% (one letter) of your grade. Missing a performance due to illness will be excused. If you miss a performance, giving at least 3 weeks’ notice, you may make-up 50% of the performance grade,(earning 50% of your quarter grade, which is ½ letter grade) if you have an acceptable excuse, which will be determined at the discretion of Mrs. Krahe. Acceptable excuses may not include student and parent choices. Missing a performance without illness or an acceptable excuse will result on the loss of 10% of your quarter grade for each miss. This may not be made up. It is important that all Band members participate in all performances. I need you all to be there.
Participation: Includes being prepared for class with your music, instrument (which is in working condition), pencil, oil, reeds and a positive attitude. By positive attitude I mean a willingness to work, learn and following the rules. Being prepared, showing improvement and having a positive attitude will make up 50-70% of your quarter grade. Participation in IMEA, Solo and Ensemble Contest and Conference Music Festival, while voluntary, will earn extra credit.
Football: Attendance is required at all games. Cheerleader will play during ½ time. Poms will play both pre-game and ½ time. Varsity players are excused from playing, but are welcome to choose to perform. All JV Players will play during ½ time-this includes those who dress for the Varsity game.
Parades: Attendance is required.
Pep Band: Attendance is required. If you play/manage for one of the teams, then you must play at all the remaining 4 games. Cheerleaders are required to play for boys’ games this year. I will dismiss you one song before the school song. (this puts into the category of students who can miss one Pep Band performance) Those who do not play/manage either team will be excused from one game without penalty. If possible, please let me know if you will be gone and do not all decide to miss the same game. See schedule—I think it’s correct, I’ll let you know about changes asap.
Marching (parade and football): all HS band members need black pants for marching (not flared, not low-rise) BLACK WALKING SHOES; BLACK SOCKS; BLACK SHIRT UNDER UNIFORM. NO SANDALS. NO HEELS. IMPROPER SHOES = REDUCTION IN GRADE.
Concert attire: Our concerts are formal performances. Students should dress appropriately. Flip flops, shorts, capris, tee shirts and blue jeans are not acceptable concert attire.
Contest attire: TBA
