Academic Expectations

 

1.  Daily Quizzes:  Students will be given a quiz at the beginning of each science block.  These quizzes are based on the materials covered in the previous science class, they evaluate student understanding and prepare them for long-term assessments like chapter tests.  (Spending 15-20 minutes each day reviewing the notes is usually enough preparation.)

 

2.  Homework  Policy: 

* For full credit, assignments are due at the beginning of the block.

* Students receive half credit for anything handed in late!

* 10 points are taken off any "no name" papers (including tests.) 

* Work is to be written clearly, legibly, and in complete sentences.  Points will be deducted from work that doesn't follow these expectations.

 

3.  Absent Policy:  Students are expected to get missed notes and assignments the day they return to school. Students will take any quizzes or tests they missed the day they return.  They will take the quiz over the new material the day following their return.  The only exception to this is when a student misses 2 school days in a row.

 
4. Grading Percentages:

* 40% Homework, Labs & Daily Quizzes

* 60% Chapter Tests

 
5.  Extra Credit:  I don't assign extra credit on an individual basis.  Opportunities for extra credit are periodically provided to the class as a whole.  It is up to individual students to work on it outside of class and turn it in by the assigned deadline (usually the next time that we meet.)

 
6.  Help:  I am available for help before and after school and during homeroom.  If you find yourself getting lost or needing extra help, please come to me before your grade falls.
