Foreign Language

600 Spanish 1   (Elective)   (All Year Course)   103

A two semester course.  Students will learn to read and write in order to give and ask for information.  The main emphasis will be in listening and speaking Spanish with attention paid to proper grammar usage.  Topics covered will be activities in the home, school, and community as well as the present tense, simple commands, and the "going to" future tense.  Also covered will be proper use of adjectives, prepositions, and possessive adjectives.  Students will also be exposed to the culture, history, and geography of most Spanish speaking countries.

610 Spanish 2   (Elective)   (All Year Course)   203

A two semester course.  Students will build on the skills learned in Spanish 1 by learning three or more tenses: preterite, imperfect, and present progressive.  Students will also acquire and extensive vocabulary about food, gifts, animals, the human body and travel needs.

Prerequisite - Spanish 1 or equivalent

620 Spanish 3   (Elective)   (All Year Course)   305

This course includes both written and oral activities to reinforce and expand vocabulary and grammar skills learned in Spanish 1 and 2 as well as a brief introduction to Spanish literature.

Prerequisite - Spanish 2

630 Spanish 4   (Elective)   (All Year Course)  

Students will continue to expand their Spanish vocabulary and study more verb tenses in depth.  Students will use the vocabulary and verb tense in small compositions and small projects.  Students will study more Hispanic cultures and read some of their literature.
