FIRST SEMESTER OUTLINE 2011-2012

MRS. BARKER, PHYSICAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR

Classroom rules are posted in the gym. 

OBJECTIVES

1)  All students will be expected to participate in discussion of the material presented.

2)  Students will be able to pass written and skill tests over each unit taught. 

3)  Junior High classes will be able to label brackets for single and double elimination tournaments.

 4)  Junior High students will learn the major muscles of the body.  

5)  Every student will be required to keep a journal of his or her fitness routines. 

 

P.E. OFFERS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!!!

Outdoor  Activities Curriculum:  Flag Football, Volley Tennis, Softball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Fall Fitness Testing, Four-Way Tug-O-War, Discus and Shot-put Throws.

Indoor Activities Curriculum: Volleyball, Basketball, Circuit Training, Interval Training, Weight Training, Cardiovascular Fitness Training, Eclipse Ball, Speedball, Shuffleboard, Table Tennis, Badminton,  Kinball, Satryan Ball Soccer, and more.

 

TEXT: "FITNESS FOR LIFE" 

6th Grade:  Chapter 1 - Fitness For All - importance of fitness and self-evaluation.

                  Chapter 2- Parts of Fitness – Health & Skill-Related Fitness

 

7th Grade:   Chapter 4- Cardiovascular Fitness – Effects of Exercise on the Cardiovascular and 

                                     Respiratory Systems.

                    Chapter 5 - Strength – Threshold of Training for Strength Exercises

 8th Grade:   Chapter 6 - Muscular Endurance - emphasizes the Fitness Principles, ways to improve  

                                    and a Threshold of Training.                   

                    Chapter 7 - Flexibility - Principles applied to it, and ways to achieve better flexibility.

 

ASSESSMENTS - Grading of Journals and class participation. Students must participate in the Fall Fitness Plan or receive a grade of 0.  Written and Skills Tests, Fit Test, WPFA, Peer Assessment, Pop Quizzes, and Rubrics.  Students will use a computer program to input fitness scores from fall and spring testing.  Students will also be responsible for inputting their own points in an Excel program on the computer.

 

 

 

 

Internet Driver’s License required.  

     Get homework in on time.

           Bring in two #2 pencils and one folder.
