Mr. Teske’s Monthly Update

As we have entered our final month of school, we spent the first week recognizing our staff with Teacher Appreciation Week.  This past month, we have finished district testing and continued to work hard as we conclude the school year.  Our high school students enjoyed prom.  Now, they are preparing for finals before the end of the year activities and graduation.  Our elementary students benefitted from the teaching from the Riverview Center, an assembly held by Gigi’s Playhouse of Rockford, and completed a week’s worth of activities to celebrate Earth Day. They picked up the surrounding area to give back to the community, planted sunflowers, decorated paper bags for Hartzell’s IGA, and completed arts and crafts throughout the week.

We conducted our annual fire drill with our local fire department. Additionally, they came to our elementary school an additional day to teach our students how to react in the event of a fire for their safety.  This joint effort of delivering an important educational lesson to our students is one of the many forms that local organizations and businesses collaborate with our school to improve our community and provide opportunities for our youth. On behalf of Warren CUSD 205, I thank all of the local businesses and organizations that have helped our school district reach our goals and improve the quality of our community.

This local support is needed now more than ever due to the state budget. School districts across the state have not been receiving their mandated categorical payments for programs such as special education, transportation, and preschool.  As of April 27, this amount has risen above 1.1 billion dollars throughout the state. This does not include General State Aid. Over 400 school districts, including Warren CUSD 205, have joined a movement to “Pass Illinois’ Budget.” As a school district, we have had to adapt and overcome many obstacles due to the lack of this funding.  Therefore, thank you to our communities and villages who continue to support our district to provide the best possible education to our students despite these barriers.

Finals are scheduled for May 17 – 19 with graduation set for May 19. Please support our graduates as they become our newest alumni members and enter the next chapter of their lives.  Thank you for your continued support, please come celebrate another successful school year with us at graduation.
